The global corporate group as we know it today had it’s origin in October 1934 with the manufacturing of one product only: the mechanical micrometer. This was the foundation stone laid by the founder of the company Yehan Numata for today’s versatile range of far more than 5000 high-tech measuring instruments which is leading in this line of business by now.

Experience and innovational energy from more than seven decades turn Mitutoyo to the pioneer and pacemaker in length measuring technique all over the world.

Today the Mitutoyo group is – based on their roots in Japan – operating in nearly 40 countries all over the world. There are more than 100 branch offices and national distribution networks, 65 M3; Solution Centers, 16 production plants, 8 research and development laboratories, 12 metrological institutes, as well as 20 calibration laboratories. Additionally, there are Mitutoyo representations in round about 60 more states.

Mitutoyo develops and produces coordinate measuring machines, vision measuring systems, surface-, form and contour measuring systems, Linear Scales, optical measuring instruments, Laser Scan Micrometer, hardness testers, and small tools. These products are manufactured in 10 Japanese production sites and in plants in Germany, The Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, United States, and China. In Germany, Mitutoyo has been operating since 1968. Today, Mitutoyo is represented by it's head office in Neuss on the Rhine and by branch offices in Hamburg, Berlin, Eisenach, Leonberg and Ingolstadt.

More than 200 employees are working for the customers in the fields of development, service, sales and distribution, and administration. They are supported by experts in the computer technology laboratory C. T. L. in Oberndorf on the Neckar. These specialists who are exclusively engaged in developing software for three coordinate measuring technique set world standards. The peripheral areas of coordinate measuring machines, like fixture and loading systems and air-conditioned cabinets, are covered by the partner company KOMEG in Saarland.
